On the 27th November, 2019, New Initiative for Social Development with some members of Ekiti Women Advocacy Team paid an advocacy visit to the chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela and his team at the state NUJ secretariat. The visit involved NISD Program Officer, Ogunlade Olamide Martins, EWAT members Mrs Ajibade, Mrs Adara Banke and Mrs Adedeji and some staff of NISD. Mr Ogunlade Olamide Martins intimated the NUJ Chairman on the progress made by the present project aimed at strengthening women political participation and development in Ekiti State, government efforts on delivering on the jointly developed Women Policy Agenda WPA as well as NISD planned activities for the 16Days Activism. Also NISD briefed the state NUJ chairman on her proposed WPA press conference billed for 6th December, 2019.
He emphasized the importance of the media in giving coverage to the project and to take the news directly to the doorsteps of duty bearers. Responding on behalf of his team, the NUJ State chairman Mr Rotimi Ojomoyela expressed his unions’ readiness and preparedness to partner with NISD to propagate the Women Policy Agenda and ensured that all target stakeholders are reached with unbiased but evidenced based reportage. Mr Ojomoyela said when given the invitation, he will mobilize his team to the WPA press conference billed for next week. He appreciated NISD’s for deeming it to consider NUJ as a stakeholder in the Women Policy Agenda and promised to reciprocate the gesture with his unions’ contributions towards achieving the needed change and development of Ekiti women.
